Since getting 2 cameras on his 9th birthday from both sets of grandparents, Ed has been interested in photography. Things really started to kick into gear aged 14 when he took a snap whilst going past Stonehenge in the car. He actually thought “Oh I might be good at this!” and pursued knowledge of the craft.
Flash forward to 2006 and having photographed live music for a couple of years with no real gains within the field, a friend of a friend invited him to a stand-up comedy night. Bringing along his camera and asking the compere whether it would be okay to take photos during the show… the rest is history.
Collaborating with acts and producers he works to build up a set of images that hopefully get across an act’s personality or the essence of the show they are putting on. This can include the final design as well.
Live work is done with minimal disturbance of the audience. It is possible a more varied set of photos can be captured at the dress rehearsal or sound check if that can be arranged ahead of time.
Photographing recordings of comedian’s specials has become a regular occurrence, stemming from having great working and personal relationships with the production companies.
